I usually put a tail on them since I mainly fish them as a mayfly but they both work

Well looks like I need to tie up a few of each. Some for Mayflies and some for caddis.

I tye them both ways. I should tye them with a tail all the time. It's easyer to bite the tail off while you are on the river, than it is to tie a tail on.

Yeah, mayflies get tails, caddis don't.

    Tails.

Take out that peacock herl thorax and substitute a small black tungsten bead in some. Gets it down a little further and has saved many a fishing trip for me in the past.

OK I have to ask Dubbn. Why BITE the tails off? Wouldn't it be easier to use your nippers? LOL

What are nippers? LOL I do tend to bite them off. Dont know why, but I do :-)

Add a bead? Nah, now the fly is rendered one dimensional. Keep the Peacock, slide a bead above the fly on your tippet, or add splitshot. Now I can use one fly in the entire water column. Just my opinion.
