I'm going to have some free time on my hands next weekend where I don't have a lot of radical stuff planned. Probably will have time for a movie Friday night and Saturday night.

Which new(er) movies should I consider watching?

If you want to watch an Oscar nom...The Irishman and Marriage Story. How Two Popes didn't get nominated is beyond me, but both Anthony Hopkins and Jonathan Pryce were nominated for acting awards.

The Irishman is long but it seems like something you would enjoy. The lawyers in Marriage Story give me PTSD.

And yes, I'm with Steven on the two popes. I just thought it was fantastic.

The Shiksah Princess wants to watch Marriage Story this weekend. I told her only on the condition that we're not "talking" afterward.

The Aron Hernandez documentary was pretty good. He seemed like a really nice guy with that big warm smile. I'm not sure I buy the story that his brain damage caused him to become a killer. But it’s certainly something I’d be worried about if I were a NFL player.

Actually, I think The Two Popes is the best of everything mentioned above.

Haven't seen The Two Popes yet. I loved The Irishman.
I'm kind of surprised Radical Joe owns a TV. ;)

Mea Culpa. I recommended Ripper Street based on season one. In season two it became a violent soap opera.

50" Panasonic Viera Plasma TV that I purchased in 2009!!! And one 28" Vizio TV.

George...Looking for movie recommendations. Not a series. I'm barely finding time to watch a 2 hour movie let alone get sucked into a series.

    Follow up...

Watched the Irishman. Real long. Too long I thought. Good flick, but thought it could have been condensed a bit.

The problem I had with the Irishman was that the DeNiro character was miscast. Way too old for that part.

Here are a few I've watched recently and can recommend:

    Netflix

The Constant Gardener - Very dark, very le Carré.

The Laundromat - Great cast, Streep, Oldman and Banderas

Norsemen - the Monty Python version of Vikings

The Highwaymen - A different take on Bonnie and Clyde, with Costner and Harrelson

Spitfire - good documentary on the WW II fighter

The Siege of Jadotville - True grit, Irish style

Amazon - oldies but goodies worth watching again

    The Big Easy

    Earth Girls are Easy

    Planes, Trains and Automobiles

    Bull Durham

    Downfall

Not a movie, but on amazon is a Ken Burns documentary: The National Parks: America's Best Idea.
I've only watched a few episodes, but it's really good.
We're watching it because we've still got the plan to hit all of them when the wife retires.

Don't know if its available yet, but the new Oscar winner, Parasites, even with subtitles, is fascinating and well worth it.

Designated Survivor on Netflix. Keifer Sunderland is Sec’y of HUD and becomes Prez due to an act of terrorism. Binge worthy.

Better Call Saul on Netfix is $$$$ if you enjoyed Breaking Bad. In season #4 they get the whole band back together (minus Cranston). Back stories galore. It's fun as hell.

I've had trouble gearing up to even watch Season 3. I've found it really cringey.

"Better Call Saul" helped me understand how Sherb got to where he's at. ;-)
This should be a good season as he becomes "Saul".

The American University of Samoa’s mascot is the Vandals? Now it all begins to make sense!
