  Even assuming its cruel (which I doubt), is it unusual? It's cruel AND unusual, not cruel OR unusual.

  Its not cruel and unusual, because its not a punishment. its considered a collateral consequence of a felony conviction. Given that it acts as a de facto disenfranchisement for millions, it might be construed as an equal protection violation, but I doubt it, since the consequences are the same for all felons. Anyway, no one has successfully made that case yet. If it requires a fix, it will have to come from the legislatures.

  So is is cruel and unusual punishment for a felon to NOT to be able to own a gun after getting out?
