Nothing to do with Trump

This has bothered me for some time. In so many States if one is convicted of a felony they can never vote again, I expect unless they leave the State, but I am not sure. To me this is just wrong in every way. It says there is no forgiveness, that you can never pay your debt to society. I would call it cruel and unusual punishment.

?????
I find the assault on free thought disturbing,
I find the willingness to give it up frightening.

    Solution: Don't become a felon.

How is this cruel and unusual?

Even assuming its cruel (which I doubt), is it unusual? It's cruel AND unusual, not cruel OR unusual.

Its not cruel and unusual, because its not a punishment. its considered a collateral consequence of a felony conviction. Given that it acts as a de facto disenfranchisement for millions, it might be construed as an equal protection violation, but I doubt it, since the consequences are the same for all felons. Anyway, no one has successfully made that case yet. If it requires a fix, it will have to come from the legislatures.

So is is cruel and unusual punishment for a felon to NOT to be able to own a gun after getting out?

    Also considered a collateral consequence.

(yes, I get that your question was rhetorical).
