Nothing to do with Trump
This has bothered me for some time. In so many States if one is convicted of a felony they can never vote again, I expect unless they leave the State, but I am not sure. To me this is just wrong in every way. It says there is no forgiveness, that you can never pay your debt to society. I would call it cruel and unusual punishment.

Even assuming its cruel (which I doubt), is it unusual? It's cruel AND unusual, not cruel OR unusual.
Also considered a collateral consequence.
