a little Christmas comet for your Christmas morning -- this is comet Lovejoy C/2014 -- heading inbound towards the sun, it's brightened beyond expectation in recent days. It's still not quite visible without binoculars except under exceptionally dark clear skies but is pretty easy to image as it climbs in the sky around 11 p.m. below Orion and Sirius

No tail visible in camera images because my sky isn't dark enough to do long exposures --- this was only 15 seconds -- but I've seen some beautiful telescopic images of it thus far.

yeah, Lily and friends don't get pictures (from me) this year -- family funeral prevailed over burlesque, and I just don't have the time to make a trip over there before the show finishes it's run for the season.

    maybe next year.
