just opened my "explanation of benefits" statement from Blue Cross. Two full pages of charges, all denied. $45,000+ in the "amount you owe" column.

the explanation on the bottom of the page? "Some charges denied due to lack of pre-certification. "

Damnit. I knew I should have asked for prior permission to have my heart attack.

FORTUNATELY, talked to the insurance company and they told me that an updated statement will be forthcoming.

talk about putting stress on the old ticker, though!

    what a travesty
    don't get too excited... their "updated" statement may end up being even higher than the $45K by the time they're done with it.

    This is why I handle all correspondences with my mother's insurance.

    You do know this is the "old" system, right? I had the same experience with a visit to the emergency room on my old private insurance. Now, i'm on medicare and it wouldn't be a deal.
