    yesterday we heard from a Congressman that the reason women are getting **** in the military is because they aren't staying home and fullfilling their Biblical obligation. By trying to serve their country they instead are only serving to stir up hormones of young men and therefore getting what they deserve.

    this is the story (sexual assault in the military) that this country should be talking about. Has there even been one thread here? I know there are many on the right wing conspiracy theories. This cannot be tolerated...and to listen to the joint chiefs (redskins) was appalling. We are a f'ed up country.....we show what we are concerned about, and that shows who we are.

    in this world the chauvinistic culture still hangs on.

    (by the way I doubt that anyone is saying this is the crappiest country ever ... they're just saying, 'let's be adult and have the integrity to be honest with and about ourselves' ... that's actually a pretty 'smart' way to ensure we stop making the same mistakes over and over again ... you know like let's blow the Eff out of a country over mobile WMD labs that don't exist ...     Yes, or si, that's exactly it -- dominant cultures throughout history on every continent, save Antartica but then if we could talk to a lesser penguin about the King penguins propensity to literally look down on minority penguins, now where was I? oh yes, dig it as we said in the Sixties.

    Washington should change the name of the team. Big deal if they lose some money in the short term. It's no excuse to say it doesn't make business sense.

    I don't give a rat's @ss if the term referred to face paint originally. It's origins have nothing to do with it. The way it is used now is important, and people do use it as a racial slur.

    Fields is from the fairly distant past, so I can forgive that which was acceptable in the 1930s.

    BTW - Speaking of the relative acceptably of words, when Agatha Christie's Ten Little N-words was considered a bit much in America, even back in the '30s, the title was changed to Ten Little Indians. I think recent editions are called And Then There Were None.

    Sure, Fields' 'distant past' was around the time lynchings were fading out as a popular form of race control. I think the word hurt then and hurts now, no statute of limitations.

    The whole thing is ****. I spent 6 years (2001-2007) working for an Indian tribe. Half of them wore **** jerseys and thought it was cool. The local HS is the Monache Marauders. The mascot is an NDN (as they call it) holding a tomahawk.
