9' 5 wt. or 8 1/2' 5 wt.?

I'm buying one of these rods to fish for small bass and bluegill out of my kayak with the low and clear water levels in the river now. Given the two are the same manufacturer, the same model and line weight and both medium fast action rods, which would be better for throwing #6 poppers to smallmouth bass and bluegills on my local river, the 9' 5 wt. or the 8 1/2' 5 wt. and why?
