Synthetic Materials

While tying up a bunch more Pheasant Tail Wet Flies I tried tying a few with some synthetic peacock and synthetic pheasant tail I had bought a while ago. While there are MINOR differences when you look at the flies. Very minor in my opinion. My question is has anybody used these and how much different do they fish? Is there any difference under the water or above for that matter? For some patterns the synthetics are much easier to handle. I hate to say it but I actually prefer the look of the synthetic pheasant tail body.

Synthetic peacock and pheasant tail - is it dubbing or something else? I've used some of the dubbing and it works okay, but I've always preferred the real thing; just my opinion. If you like the synthetic, and the fish do too, go with it. BTW, if you've got some pics of your flies, I'd love to see them.

I have always wondered about natural peacock and synthetic. I am under the impression (Short for I cant prove a **** thing) that natural Peacock turns coal black under water at any depth. The hue (color) of peacock is actually a prism affect. Does synthetic keep the peacock color at depth?

I have only used synthetic peacock chennile on waterboatman patterns. Fish don't seem to mind and it certainly is more durable.

It looks good. I did pick up some UV enhancers that I will try in some leech patterns. Apparently fish can see UV and it is supposed to work well.

I've got the synthetic peacock in peacock and black. I like to use the peacock for the body on my beetles (because there are so many of them). Much more durable than using the real thing. Can't remember why I have the black off the top of my head.
