PSA for Disabled Vets & Purple Heart Recepients

As of Jan 1 2020 disabled veterans with a service connected disability may now shop at military base commissary, BX/PX, and, most importantly, Class 6 facilities. You can google it but in short if you have a VA ID and it says "service connected" on it you present that and you can shop.

Luckily, a co-worker told me about this last Friday or I probably never would have known.

I was supposed to meet some friends at Ft. Meyer/Henderson Hall in VA last week for lunch and planned to check out the PX and commissary, but couldn't make it. Friends say, though, that prices are nothing like they were overseas way back when I could use them as a Foreign Service officer, especially now that commissaries pay their own way. Friends tell me Class VI stores are a bargain compared to PA, not so much compared to DC, even with DC's 10% sales tax.

The AAFES online catalog prices were way higher than Amazon on all but one item I compared, even when allowing for the lack of sales tax.

Keep your stinkin' government hands off my Medicare.
