    This will really hurt all the Canadian producers buying-up sugar maple tracts in Vermont, who are importing that product to stockpile in Canada, then waiting to export when prices rise even more and sales quotas also rise.

    Meanwhile, U.S. producers enjoy high export prices thanks to Canada's/Quebec's cartels and simply will export elsewhere.

    Canada is no more exempt from the law of unintended consequences than the United States is. Trade wars are a bad idea. End of story.
