CTE in football players
The degenerative brain disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) has been diagnosed in 110 of 111 former NFL players whose brains were donated for research, according to a study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association on Tuesday.
In total, CTE was diagnosed in 87% of 202 former football players --- including high school, college, NFL, Canadian Football League and semipro. The study, the largest conducted into the potential link of brain trauma in football and CTE, was led by researchers at Boston University and the VA Boston Healthcare System.
I suppose other sports like Rodeo have accepted injury as an unavoidable consequence of participation, but this is going to create a lot of controversy I would think.
Do you have a son playing?

I dunno, the last rodeo I went to all the cowboys wore kevlar. So at least they are trying to mitigate the risk.
I only have daughters. and for once, I'm glad.
Joe K life philosophy in a nutshell: there's no issue that personal responsibility can't solve.
Personal responsibility..

Just wait until they hit about 12 or 13 and you'll wish you had boys out running their heads into anything hard - HAHAHAHA.
I think we were at "peak football" about 3 years ago. It's going to have to change as more and more football fans are being turned off from the gladiator aspect of the sport. I know my consumption of the NFL has dropped quite a bit. I watched maybe one non-Steelers game last year during the regular season. Now, my increasing aversion is due to inconsistent rules, further neutering of defense, and non-stop ads for **** beer. And that 1/2 of the games are on Fox. The only thing that is possibly more repulsive than Fox News is Fox NFL coverage.
Joe, coal mining is a pretty good job for those who are willing to take the risk. Should we just increase wages and say to hell with trying to make it safer?
Also, I have no answers on how to make the sport safer. Especially when a lot of these studies are citing the smaller, repetitive collisions (think lineman in the trenches) as more damaging as a huge hit. Eventually the sport may have to go away from helmets.

So instead of having to worry about 2 penises you have to worry about 100.

Rugby?
Rugby!!!!?
Meh! Rugby is Australian Rules Football for snowflakes. I will allow, however, that now that they've banned head butting much of the fun has gone out of the game.
Thanks for the FYI. Prick:)
Can add boxing to this list as well. Money talks I guess
