So, 24 July is Pioneer Day in Utah. A state holiday that is way more culturally important than Independence Day. It's this weird mish-mash of nationalism (not to be confused with patriotism) and religion. Anyway, they have a freakin' parade every July 24th and it is a big deal here.
BYU built a float for the parade. Note that the "U" in BYU stands for university. I present to you the 2015 BYU Pioneer Day Float!



The float is supposed to read "freedom faith family through education"

I could get into Pioneer Day. Sounds like a Jewish holiday - they didn't kill us, let's eat!

Beer and Pie Day should be followed up by dinner in a Chinese restaurant.

So my neighbors two doors down are part of the God Squad (both BYUers). Anyway they had a big "party" on Saturday. I really wanted to go over and ask if they were celebrating pioneer day, but we actually like them and the wife told me I couldn't be a **** for a change.

Don't ever invite him fishing - he'll drink all your beer. That is why you always invite 2 mormons at a time. They keep an eye on each other ;-)

"Pioneer/Statutory **** Day fireworks were heard until about 11 PM last night.
Although to be fair there is a large number of indigenous non-mos who treat it like a scums 4tg of July.
I had a 3 day weekend but we don't go camping over the "holiday" due to the crowds. It's a zoo in the mountains.
We had an excellent fireworks show from our driveway on both the 4th and the 24th, so that is a positive! One of our neighbors must have spent thousands!
