Floundering with Syria, Obama strikes a blow to gang violence

No longer will those thugs be able to get their hands on sweet, sweet 1950s M1 Garands. Or M1 Carbines.

For the unaffiliated, here is a picture of these notorious gang murder weapons.

Can we make a rule that whenever you post a gun related thread you have to try to fit your toe into the trigger guard?

    Two thoughts.

    1. I feel completely vindicated. Congress did nothing, just as I said they would.

    2. This is not journalism. Its opinion.

The types of surplus weapons that have been re-imported under this provision are all more than 50 years old, and fall under the definition of "curio" or "relic" firearms. They include M1 Garand rifles and several other models -- a list can be found here. As such, it is safe to assume that few are used in crimes.

Seriously. They aren't even trying. Its like the rightwad parallel to the NYT.

    Page count, anyone? Over/under?

I tell you, what this HAS done is bumped up my order with the CMP for my Garand. Going to be tough to explain to the wife that I spent 5-600 bucks on "another gun" with kids on the way, but screw her.... Amiright, guys?

You'll probably have an echo chamber and I assume that is what you want.

I actually think its a pretty good excuse, as far as excuses go. Fishing rods never get banned.

    You would actually be wrong.

Question for you... I post 5 times more often here than my "home forum". If I wanted an eco chamber, I wouldn't be here. I actually do enjoy the back and forth, and wish The Departed were back.

Otherwise, this forum will do one of two things. Die quickly or die slowly.

Just to stir the pot, anyone here old enough to remember the 6.5 mm Carcano Model 91/38 rifle?

My brother's first deer rifle was one of these, available in the late 1950s-early 1960s for ten bucks by mail order, including delivery. A sling, cheap scope and a box of ammo cost twice what the rifle did.

But my brother was not its most notable purchaser.....
Keep your stinkin' government hands off my Medicare.

No he wasn't. Mr Oswald would be the "more notable" one.

  • Including one that would curb the import of military surplus weapons -- in a move that could anger collectors.

Yea the country needs more of this one.

Yes with a trigger pull like that of a chalk gun.

Are you saying this because it's a piece of crap, or because of the history associated with it?

I'm assuming you are saying this tongue in cheek because it's a piece of crap, not because of the history associated with it?

Tongue in cheek with fillings rattled and a slight facial twitch. How the hell Oswald shot Kennedy with that thing is as in Full Metal Jacket. "Show what one motivated Marine with his rifle can accomplish".

Hey no trolling for the conspiracy theorists.

I appreciate your efforts, yat. You've stepped up.

In another bit of irony, this means we can't buy guns that were made in America, but we can still buy Soviet era parts kits. (stolen from another poster)

I'm so glad we have Obama to figure these things out for us.

The death throes of the rightwads are pretty funny. Enjoy your gun victory before Hillary is in office with a Democratic Senate and a razor thin R-majority.

Gun and ammo sales were starting to stabilize. I even saw a box of 22 LR at a sporting goods store today.

If it just saves the life of gang banger, it will be worth it!
