    Neversink Trude

Never should say Never(sink) but the foam does a good job of keeping it on top, even after a few fish

    hook - Dai Riki 320 (#12)
    thread - Uni 6/0 camel
    tail - golden pheasant tippets
    body - peacock herl
overbody - 2mm foam strip brown
    wing - Congo Hair white
    flash - Krsytal Flash pearl
    hackle - saddle brown/grizzly
legs - round rubber brown (med)

attach thread to hook at about the 60% mark

attach a clump of golden pheasant

    and trim ends

trim a strip of 2mm foam (hook gap width) to a point

spread a little Crazy Glue on hook shank

    and tie in foam overbody

tie in 6-8 strands of peacock herl

and wrap forward with thread (re-enforces peacock against fish teeth) to 60% position

pull foam forward, tie in with 2 soft wraps (so as not to cut the foam)

apply a little more Crazy Glue, then spiral thread to hook eye and secure foam again

wrap back to 60% to provide smooth thread base for wing & hackle

pull out a clump of Congo Hair

    trim ends and tie in

take 3 strands of Krystal Flash

fold & tie in on either side of wing

    attach legs, near

    and far

    tie in hackle

wrap to front and back (splays/densificates the hackle) to 60% position

trim a V in hackle on top

pull the foam back over the head

tie in, whip finish & add a drop of Sally

trim foam, pull wing/flash back and trim even with tail

    trim legs and you're done

    fish eye view

I was flying blind with this fly, only had one I had purchased (and some pics on the web) to use as an example. Took me about a dozen flies to get a tying sequence that worked for me, but it turns out to be a pretty easy bug. Again, not a quicky guide fly but fast enough, durable and effective.

Nice tie. Would be so much more pleasant w/o that beach sandal tied in. Ahem.

    here

    and here

without the foam they're wet flies in a hurry, and that's just not as much fun.

That river looks just like the Arkansas. Nice tie, BTW.

    Scott,

A guy named Dale (I think) from back East (or South, or probably both) who comes to Whitefish every summer had Lester tie him up some Neversink Trudes because Lakestream was out. Dale (?) said that's the fly his buddies really like. Might'n you be one of his buddies?

    Great photos by the way.

Hi Willy. No, can't say I know the gentleman (only guy I know who comes to Whitefish every summer is me ) By the way, looks like we'll be out there June-Oct next year so the wife can spend some time with her mom; hopefully we can meet up.

    Regards,
    Scott
