    Carp on a flyrod are great. I refer to them as poor man's salmon, they put up only slightly less fight than Great Lakes salmon and are not too choosy about what fly to hit. If I'm targeting them specifically I'll go with a 7/8 wt, but scads of them have been whipped on a 5 wt. Caveat - in very cold water, like ice out, they are pretty sluggish. They'll tailwalk in summer in low water.
