    Well, it's inevitable.

    When the populist rhetoric fails in reality, it can't be the beliefs, it must be subversion by the wealthy and businesses. If we can just get rid of the anti-populists, everything will be OK.

    The issue in Venezuela isn't so much populism, socialism or even incompetence, although there is more than enough of the latter to fuel a dozen countries in a downward spiral. Maduro is following an ages-old tradition of blaming everyone but himself in order to cling to power. Politicians of all stripes do it, despots more so. Maduro's up Sheiss Creek because Cuba can't help and Russia appears not to be interested.

    Venezuela state oil company gave cash to Trump inauguration

    20 April 2017 Venezuela has donated $500,000 to US President Donald Trump's inauguration, newly released records show.

    Citgo Petroleum, a US-based subsidiary of the Venezuelan state-owned oil company, is named in papers filed with the Federal Election Commission.

    The revelation comes as the Venezuelan economy appears to be crippled by food shortages, violent crime and inflation.

    Two people were shot in protests on Wednesday as tens of thousands took to the streets to demand new elections

    Other major corporations named in the documents include Pepsi and Walmart, which gave $250,000 and $150,000 respectively, while owners of NFL teams or their companies gave more than $5m.

    Casino owner and billionaire Sheldon Adelson also gave $5m.

    Of course it's a socialistic hell hole (in the true sense of the word as the state is now in control of a significant percentage of the means of production). But this time was going to be different.

    The laws of economics are immutable and violated at one's peril.

    Seizing private property without compensation or any thought as to how to manage it is what I meant by Maduru taking the classic course of blaming others for his ineptitude. Venezuela's problems began before Maduro went on a grab it campaign, beginning with years of incompetent statist rule and essentially a one commodity economy.

    This time it would not have been different (socialism doesn't work, as most of us understand), but not necessarily failed state bad. Mixed economies under socialist governments muddle through for the most part.

    I know, and the economic downturn as well. Maduro intensified the stupidity of the seizuresand bad policies and the downturn became a downward spiral. In the spirit of the WW I anniversary, speaking of what's left of Venezuela's economy, dat Fokker's about to hit the ground and become a Mess-o-schmidt.
